so what exactly is instafocus?
well, for starters, it's a universal app for iphone and ipad that showcases instagram's finest photographers. the app was built for people who deserve a chance to shine among the 80+ million other instagrammers.
those included on the showcase (currently more than 600) have been discovered via #IFshowcaseME, found by other showcasers, or nominated via http://instafoc.us/nominate. our server then curates the latest photo from each person into the showcase, which now updates in real-time!
you can find us on instagram here: @instafocus.

instafocus was created and built by @r3mus, @glamagurl & @jeremyslens.

i thought instafocus was free? why the in-app purchases? what do they do?
the showcase, search, and telegram pages are, and always will be, free. instafocus isn't backed by any investors, and because of the limitations of instagram's api service, we had to build a lot of the functionality on servers that costs money. the in-app purchases help cover that cost and allows us to spend time developing and improving the app.
the way the in-app purchases work now:
when you first download instafocus, you won't be able to use the 'you' or 'feed pages and you'll be limited to storing only 3 favorite users. because we know that not everyone feels the same way about paying for apps, we decided to give you the option: you can choose $0.99, $1.99, $2.99, $4.99, $6.99 or $9.99 -- each of these options unlocks the app completely, with the only difference being the price you pay. that said, don't feel you have to unlock instafocus to use it - the showcase, featured, and search pages, liking and commenting, and adding up to 3 people to your favorites page are features that are (and always will be) free.
once you've unlocked instafocus, if you feel you'd like to contribute to the servers and development, you can do so from the 'thanks' page. you'll find the price points are identical, and you can purchase any of them as often as you like (or not at all).
what? i paid to unlock instafocus and it's still not unlocked?
oh no! please try the "fix" or send us a note using in the[help & support] menu.
ok, so what made you create instafocus?
because we love instagram. really. we spend several hours a day looking at amazing photos, commenting, liking and posting. joining this community has been life-altering; we’re all the better for it. lately though, with the instagram population soaring past 50 million users, it is becoming harder and harder to discover photography-oriented people; people who take great care when they shoot, edit, and post to instagram, and who have a rare flare for visual artistry.
we thought for a while that instagram was fundamentally broken; that it needed to be fixed. but after a while, we realized that instagram is (and always was) designed to be a social network; one that’s not exclusively about “photography” as an art, but about people sharing moments of their lives.
but what about the photographers then? do we leave them to disappear into the ether? or do we stand up and do something about it? “yeah, let’s actually do something about it” we said; then all the pieces fell into place, and instafocus became a reality. it’s minimalist; it’s simple; it’s beautiful. it’s not about the social network anymore, it’s about every-day people who happen to take really, really amazing photos. welcome to instafocus. if you wouldn’t mind leaving your shoes at the door, that’d be great.
oh, and one more thing – we're on facebook and twitter, so come hang out and read our unintelligible ramblings~
